DIRECTOR’S BIO
Chen Ni is a Chinese filmmaker, daughter of a mathematician. With a degree from Beijing’s Institute of Fashion Technology, she relocated to California and is now currently in her second year of a Master in Fine Arts in Filmmaking. What drove her into filmmaking was the need to tell a compelling story with her characteristic style of subtle tension. Her favorite filmmakers are Wong Kar Wai from Hong Kong and Ang Lee. She was inspired to do “The Lesson” as her first year thesis, taking up on the challenge of making a Chinese period piece and portraying the angst and delusion of a mathematician during World War II.
